WRITERS ON WAX AT UNRULY GALLERY'S 10TH ANNIVERSARY

This October, fellow traveller SHOE’s Unruly gallery celebrates its 10th anniversary with a 3-day exhibition at Het HEM titled Post>vandalism. An impressive line-up of international abstract artists who all have their roots in the street show paintings, sculptures, readymades and installations, and Ruyzdael is on deck to provide the soundtrack.

Historically, we can see the origins of post-vandalism in art movements such as auto-destructive art, nouveau realism and of course graffiti. Destruction and creation are closely related practices, and never more so than in the work of the artists showing at Post>andalism, including Ruyzdael family like Christopher Stead, EGS, Henny Overbeek, Nug, Paul du Bois-Reymond, Petro and of course SHOE himself. Additionally, the exhibition is historicizing all this new work with early graffiti works by Futura, Rammellzee and Dondi White.

By releasing the compilations Writers on Wax Volume 1 (2019) and All Out Kings (2021), Ruyzdael has sought to tighten the bond between graffiti art and music production. Both vinyl records featured new and exclusive music from artists with feet in both lanes, including Osgemeos, Nug, Frankie Bones and Adam X.

Ruyzdael’s Dim Browski wil DJ at the opening of Post>andalism on October 16, in addition to performances by Mark du Mosch and Rank Assistant. We’ll also be selling Ruyzdael records, including the All Out Kings special edition, books and shirts.
